Biodiversity as a premise

The variety and richness of nature represent the best allies of the environment

Starting in 2015, Tenuta Cucco has been managed in accordance with the principles of organic agriculture, and it was certified organic in 2018. Given our experience at La Raia, our winery in the Gavi hills where we produce Gavi and Barbera biodynamic, we felt this was an inevitable choice.

Acting as farmers and winegrowers in a context with UNESCO heritage listing – the Langhe hills – makes this project even more challenging. The orientation towards production and vinification that fully respects the territory is translated into concrete actions, aimed at sustaining, and increasing the biodiversity of these hills. The fostering of biodiversity is a central premise of our action as farmers, a responsibility that must be our true priority, passed down to future generations.

In the Tenuta Cucco vineyards we practice cut green manuring to reinforce the vitality of the soil and the plants, and we use only natural products for the control of fungal diseases. We have launched a program for the reintroduction of local species such as downy oak, hornbeam, field maples and wood-yielding cherry trees along the borders of some of our vineyards.

Our effort on the Langhe landscape should always be capable of creating new opportunities through which our work can avoid competing with the environment, instead sustaining it in all its unique aspects.
